Some of us may have the knack for do-it-yourself (DIY) projects, but most of us don't. For that reason it's best to hire an expert or you may end up spending more money on costly mistakes.

Interior Designers are a valuable resource because not only do they have an Interior Design background, but they have hundreds of vendors at their fingertips. They know the who's who in the industry; who to go to and more importantly, who NOT to go to.

Even if you start with just an idea, an Interior Designer can bring your design dreams to fruition. Whether you have just purchased your dream home or live in an apartment or condo, Interior Designers are experts at space planning.

The best way to find your personal Designer is usually by word of mouth. Ask around to see if you know someone who has had a good experience with one. Many designers will also have a website online to advertise their services.

When you have made your selection, be sure to visit with your Designer before hiring her or him. Your Designer will want to visit your home or office and listen to you about your needs. Be clear about your ideas, goals and intentions when presenting to your Designer.

And then ask your Designer questions about his or her background, where they received their education, projects they have done and so forth.

The Designer you choose must understand exactly what you want and also be able to work well with you. There are many personality types, but you must be confident that your selected Designer is "on the same page" as you.

It's not always how many years the Designer has been practicing, but more about if she or he is confident in their abilities. You can always ask for referrals too. And never sign a contract until you are absolutely clear about what the Designer will do for you.

Even if you are on a budget, there are many Interior Designers who will work for you and will usually charge you by the hour. Prices can range from $75 dollars an hour to $350 dollars an hour and up depending on the project.

Many Designers range in expertise in home or office design known as Residential and Commercial Design. But either way, you're sure to get the best help you need when you hire the right Interior Designer.
